In the tennis world, this time could probably be called the "off season", especially that all the majors already concluded. And what could give fans a healthy dose of tennis during this lazy tail-end of 2009? Tennis video games! All the action...all the excitement...all the lying around on fat a****, pigging out on potato chips and soda....ahhhhhhh.....the life of a true sports fan.
Arguably the most popular tennis video game has just released its latest version this year -- Virtua Tennis 2009. Developed by Sumo Digital and Sega, VT 2009 comes off the heels of the successful predecessor, Virtua Tennis 3. The most notable addition since VT3 is the inclusion of legends Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg, and Tim Henman, who could actually act as you coaches!
The player list? For the men, there are the usual suspects: the Roger Federers, the Rafael Nadals...the debut of Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. And then there's also the injury-plagued David Nalbandian, the ill-stricken Mario Ancic, the aging Tommy Haas, the inflexible James Blake...players you wouldn't bet on in the real thing. Perhaps, these names were significant in 2008, when the development of the game was figuratively already on its "round of 16". But looking at the happenings during recent months, relevant newer names are unfortunately excluded.
